Easter’s been and gone. Roll on the Summer!
Everything’s happening in Glasgow this summer and if its too busy for you, there’s always the peace and tranquillity of Loch Lomond. Both are a mere twenty minutes away by car or train.
We have the Commonwealth Games and Radio 1 Big Weekend coming to Glasgow along with a host of other events. So Glasgow’s definitely where it’s at!
Our five self catering holiday cottages were full over the Spring fortnight and our guests enjoyed some glorious weather. We only have a few available weeks left in the summer period and we’re currently doing great deals for Autumn stays. Our Highland Cows are enjoying the new grass and we have new lambs in the fields too. The tadpoles are also back in the pond next to the cottages and we’ve seen new chicks hatched at various nest sites in the hills behind the cottages.
Also for the summer we’ve introduced a new walk in the hills. Instead of following the road to Loch Humphrey, some of our guests have been trying the paths through the woods behind the cottages. This is accessed by following the walk towards Loch Humprhey and taking the gate on the right, which leads into the woods. You will find lots of tracks meandering up through the woods to the top of The Kilpatrick Hills. These were made over 100 years ago by previous land owner, Lord Erskine so he could travel through his Estate on his pony and trap while looking across the River Clyde to his stately home, Mar Hall – it used to be Erskine Hospital for Wounded Servicemen, but is now The Mar Hall Hotel.
It’s now one year on since we opened the newly refurbished Gavinburn Cottages! We have been offering guests from around the world luxury self catering accommodation in the Kilpatrick Hills. Check out our reviews on Trip Advisor to see how much they love it! Our guests love being close to Glasgow and Loch Lomond coupled with the unrivalled views of the surrounding countryside and the stunning interiors. Demand has been so good we have had to build two new luxury self catering two bedroom cottages at the same great location. This means we can now sleep up to 22 guests in luxurious comfort!
We still offer our jam packed welcome hamper of delicious Scottish produce and as we have every cottage named after a famous whisky there’s even a mini bottle of the corresponding malt whisky awaiting you on arrival. Sumptuous bed linen and luxury towels are also provided and our cosy stoves are all set up and ready to go. We know you will love the cathedral ceilings in the new cottages, not to mention the French doors out onto the viewing terrace!
Our Highland Cow, Merida
The new cottages are called The Glenlivet and The Macallan and join our four bedroom Auchentoshan, our two bedroom Glengoyne and our one bedroom Glenmorangie cottages. Keeping up with the Scottish theme we have a new addition to our Highland Cattle Fold in the shape of a cheeky wee heifer called Amy!
We hope you enjoy exploring the website and hopefully you will come and explore our beautiful Kilpatrick Hills! Remember your only 10 miles from Glasgow and Loch Lomond and the Kilpatrick train station at the bottom of the hill allows you easy access to all the visitor attractions you could want to see.
Gavinburn Cottages refurbishment is nearing completion and we are now taking bookings. We’ve set our self catering cottages price tariffs at a very affordable level to celebrate our opening. You can find all the information you need to select and book your self catering cottages with details of all the facilities, activities, attractions and services on offer to all our guests right here on our new website.
Glasgow has just made it into Lonely Planets Top 10 of world cities you must visit before you die! Glasgow has undergone a transformation in the last decade and has become the destination city of choice in the UK for all ages of visitors. Its appeal is broad and growing and there truly is something for everyone.
Spring is just round the corner, so lambing season is nearly here! Expect to see some cute new additions to the flock. The season doesn’t officially start until the beginning of April… so, here’s some of our grown-up sheep.
There have been rumours floating about for a while now, but it looks like there will finally be a 24 Hour endurance mountain bike race over and around the Kilpatrick Hills.
There are plans afoot to build two new, contemporary cottages at Gavinburn. The old outbuilding to the east of the main cottages has traditionally been used as winter shelter for sheep and cattle – but now with a bit of careful planning and hard work, we plan on creating two new luxury self-catering cottages with a modern twist to complement our existing range of traditional cottages.
Gavinburn Cottages have launched their new website and identity as from today and after a short period of renovation and improvements, Gavinburn Cottages will soon be ready to officially open to the public so get booking and be one of the first to stay!
We apologise for the lack of interior photos on our lovely new site but we are still renovating the cottages with the help of interior designer Katy Rodgers of Fintry and will soon have photos of her magic for you to view. You can however book with confidence that the cottages will be both cosy and stylish!
Our local distillery Auchentoshan is holding it’s annual whisky festival again in August this year. With various activities and events on throughout the day, and free entry, you’d be mad to miss it!
