Well that’s the trees changing colour and autumn is upon us. What a great summer it’s been and the driest September for decades at Gavinburn Cottages. All our self-catering guests have been marvelling at how dry and sunny it’s been. We try to tell our overseas visitors that its like this every year in Scotland!
Easter’s been and gone. Roll on the Summer!
Everything’s happening in Glasgow this summer and if its too busy for you, there’s always the peace and tranquillity of Loch Lomond. Both are a mere twenty minutes away by car or train.
We have the Commonwealth Games and Radio 1 Big Weekend coming to Glasgow along with a host of other events. So Glasgow’s definitely where it’s at!
Our five self catering holiday cottages were full over the Spring fortnight and our guests enjoyed some glorious weather. We only have a few available weeks left in the summer period and we’re currently doing great deals for Autumn stays. Our Highland Cows are enjoying the new grass and we have new lambs in the fields too. The tadpoles are also back in the pond next to the cottages and we’ve seen new chicks hatched at various nest sites in the hills behind the cottages.
Also for the summer we’ve introduced a new walk in the hills. Instead of following the road to Loch Humphrey, some of our guests have been trying the paths through the woods behind the cottages. This is accessed by following the walk towards Loch Humprhey and taking the gate on the right, which leads into the woods. You will find lots of tracks meandering up through the woods to the top of The Kilpatrick Hills. These were made over 100 years ago by previous land owner, Lord Erskine so he could travel through his Estate on his pony and trap while looking across the River Clyde to his stately home, Mar Hall – it used to be Erskine Hospital for Wounded Servicemen, but is now The Mar Hall Hotel.
Spring is just round the corner, so lambing season is nearly here! Expect to see some cute new additions to the flock. The season doesn’t officially start until the beginning of April… so, here’s some of our grown-up sheep.
There are plans afoot to build two new, contemporary cottages at Gavinburn. The old outbuilding to the east of the main cottages has traditionally been used as winter shelter for sheep and cattle – but now with a bit of careful planning and hard work, we plan on creating two new luxury self-catering cottages with a modern twist to complement our existing range of traditional cottages.
Gavinburn Cottages have launched their new website and identity as from today and after a short period of renovation and improvements, Gavinburn Cottages will soon be ready to officially open to the public so get booking and be one of the first to stay!
We apologise for the lack of interior photos on our lovely new site but we are still renovating the cottages with the help of interior designer Katy Rodgers of Fintry and will soon have photos of her magic for you to view. You can however book with confidence that the cottages will be both cosy and stylish!
Our local distillery Auchentoshan is holding it’s annual whisky festival again in August this year. With various activities and events on throughout the day, and free entry, you’d be mad to miss it!
