The winter’s been very busy here at Gavinburn Cottages. We’ve had full houses for the Christmas week and the New Year week. We’ve had many guests staying to take advantage of the January sales in Glasgow City Centre and some who’ve fancied a spot of hill walking in the brisk winter air at the Kilpatrick Hills. Our guests have loved the sledging and we have had guests from Spain staying, who have been able to let their children play in the snow for the very first time. Many have commented on the changing view during winter and it really is spectacular to see right down to the River Clyde, coated in snow but with the sun still shining. The popular winter market at Lomond Shores on the banks of Loch Lomond has also proved popular, for many of our visitors.
We are now looking forward to spring and the arrival of more wildlife to the Kilpatrick Hills. Hopefully our swans will come back with more cygnets, please see our photo from last year, taken at Loch Humphrey. You will all be glad to know that Merida and Toffee our two highland cows are coping with the colder temperatures and tucking into their daily treat of a bale of hay. Spring of course sees our Blackface ewes begin lambing on the hillside next to the cottages, so hopefully our guests will help keep an eye on our outdoor maternity ward! The birds in the woods should also begin nesting, so keep an eye out for woodpeckers, cuckoos, falcons and such like which neighbour the cottages. The ducks have also been spotted at the cottage pond but this maybe something to do with the barley we scattered nearby for the pheasants!
We still have availability for stays in March and April. The summer months are now starting to fill up also as people look for their perfect self-catering retreat near Loch Lomond or Glasgow during their summer holidays. Also, please checkout our TripAdvisor page, as we have just had our 50th review and I’m pleased to say it’s maintaining our 100% five star record!
Don’t forget we can sleep up to 22 guests in the five fully equipped luxury self-catering cottages at Gavinburn and we are under 10 miles from both Glasgow and Loch Lomond. We also have the Kilpatrick train station at the bottom of the hill and we are 10 minutes from Glasgow Airport. But our real selling points are our stunning views and location, which really need to be seen to be believed.
