Just back from a week staying in The Macallan cottage at Gavinburn, what a perfect holiday location. The best equipped self catering cottage we have ever stayed in, every detail... read more thought of, comfortable and so cosy in the autumn evenings with the log burner fire on looking out over the twinkling lights below.
Location is perfect, hill walking on your doorstep with fantastic views. Also so close to country parks, canal, the ferries to the inner Clyde islands, Loch Lomond and some excellent restaurants, a special mention for Monadh Kitchen in Bearsden, Michelin rated food, great service and exceptional value!
Our host Alex kept us informed at all times and was excellent in dealing with a brief wifi issue, great service.
Don’t hesitate in booking Gavinburn Cottages, they live up to everything they promise and we have no doubt we are coming back soon. More

There are 5 cottages and we stayed in... read more the Auchentoshan, a three-bedroom cottage that sleeps up to six people. It was Christmas and the owner decorated the living room for us complete with a tree. Bedrooms and bathrooms were fantastic. Everything was supplied including a useful welcome pack. Great location to explore that part of Scotland. Definitely recommend.

2023/01/02 - Ross M I’ve stayed at the cottages 3 times now, twice in 2022 and once in 2019. These cottages are truly excellent. The location is superb, you’re up in the hills... read more with a lovely view of surrounding hills, fields and the river Clyde (also Loch Lomond on your right). There are highland cows around the cottages 90%’of the time which really adds something, you can walk up the hills behind the cottages to loch Humphrey if you fancy a little trek! On the other hand, the cottages are near Kilpatrick station - a 20 minute walk down and you can hop on the train to Glasgow and to Edinburgh from there (I’m a Celtic fan living in England so this is a great way to go see my team). Inside the cottages, the view is just as superb. I’ve stayed in ‘Auchentoshan’ and ‘Glenmorangie’ and both are immaculately decorated in a modern, yet cosy style! They are also extremely well equipped with kitchen items (plates, pans, utensils etc), towels, dishwasher, shampoo and shower gel, wood for the fire, storage space - everything! There’s even laundry facilities and DVD’s/board games to choose from as well as leaflets on local attractions. They’re dog friendly! You’re also a 10 minute drive from Dumbarton which has several supermarkets and fuel stations. There’s a small shop in the village and a couple of pubs. Our hosts spared no effort to... read more ensure we enjoyed all the comfort and convenience of the Glenmorangie unit. Views from the cottage, set in the most tranquil farm area, were outstanding. Access to and from Glasgow city and airport, and some of the most beautiful scenery the west of Scotland offers is so easy.
Should we ever return to the area, Gavinburn cottages will be our first choice for a home-from-home.

Everything provided... read more including a great welcome pack. Accommodation is contemporary but in keeping with the historic cottage. Can’t recommend this more highly for a short or long break, endless walks right behind the cottage with stunning views across the Clyde. The owner Alex is very hands on and nothing was too much trouble.

Had nice informative chat with owner Alex, about the local area. Walks up the hill are superb. Will definitely return.

The owners Alex and Leigh - Ann,had... read more thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable with a food and drinks package on arrival and checks to see that we had arrived and settled in OK.
We discovered that the location of the cottages is excellent with the airport close by, Glasgow City only a short drive away and Loch Lomond and the Trossacs on our doorstep.
We found the views from the Cottages south east over the Erskine Bridge and south west across the River Clyde to Greenock to be spectacular and it’s even better to watch the sun go down or see the bridge in all its glory when the lights come on.
It’s just like living in a farm with hielin coos feeding in the fields around the cottages, sheep and they’re newly born lambs playing in the burn that runs through the fields, the most beautiful horses in the paddocks as you drive too and from the cottages and not to forget the wildlife with eagles flying above, foxes running past and the occasional hare bouncing through the long grass.
Also, if you fancy a wee walk in the Old Kilpatrick Hills then, you’re almost there. We also discovered that just North of the Cottages is Loch Humphrey, a popular walk with the locals and if you have time I recommend that you don’t miss the opportunity to walk to the top and see the views from there. Also, it’s a great spot for a picnic.
Finally, I would recommend Gavinburn Cottages to anyone looking for accommodation with very high standards in the best ever location you could ask for.

The views are exceptional, with an elevated... read more vista over the Erskine Bridge from the lounge and down the Firth of Clyde from the bedroom. Plenty of parking and a lovely front garden shared only with the other residents.
Also of note a fantastic walk from the front door over to Loch Humphrey reservoir and the Kilpatrick Hills. And the most opulent welcome pack ever!
With close family in the area, we’ll definitely be back, availability permitting.
